Summer days - what joy!

It's been a very hot few days, and salads have dominated the menu at our house, alongside simply grilled meat from the barbecue - easy! I am one not to waste anything if it can be helped, and even the heat from the BBQ does not drift away unwanted! A slice of pineapple was a different dessert to try out the other evening, and how delicious it was! Simply slice and leave on the heat until it is tender. Mine took about 20-25 mins, but it will depend on the heat. Have a go!

Perfectly char-grilled pineapple :)

In the garden, the veggie plot is still producing for us, although the mangetout have been eaten lots - not by us!! I took the first crop, which were great, but today decided to use the pods for seeds, and plant some dwarf borlotti beans instead. Oh well, that's the way things go, but we have more to look forward to!

Fresh carrots...
Our first crop of mangetout
As for the rest, we have kept eating the odd lettuce (probably one or two a week), along with fresh spinach and rocket in our salads. The beetroots are looking ready to pull (don't like them too big), and then roast slowly - Mmmmmm....
I spotted an enormous turnip today - hopefully I won't be needing a train of people and animals to help me pull it, but I am looking forward to eating it. I am the only one who likes them in our household (and, it seems, the family!) - their loss! ;-)

Last weekend, R and I ventured to Hampton Court Flower Show, held by the RHS every year http://www.rhs.org.uk/shows-events/rhs-hampton-court-palace-flower-show

I was glad to see another very small veggie patch in the Hedgehog street garden - it may have been smaller than mine, but looked great...

You can just see the cucumbers climbing the cane obelisk, and behind that are cabbages. There is some chard to the left. A very sweet garden, that just showed what we can do. I got some ideas for next year too.

Back in mine, I harvested my crop of potatoes (remember I used an old bag of new potatoes that had sprouted, and popped them in a bag of compost). Well, I got my bag of potatoes back! Lovely fresh ones to eat tomorrow with marinated chicken breast, carrots and, now that I have spotted them, some dwarf beans.

Eat your heart out Indiana - look what I found!
The full bounty.

Looks what hiding under here!

Oh the joy of grow-your-own! I am a very happy lady :-D
