Saving the World (STW) Day two

Continuing on my plastics challenge...

So, another small shop today, well, two actually...

Firstly I bought chicken pieces at the Co-op in a plastic container, but this was recyclable. The film that covers the top isn't however and it is extremely difficult to overcome this as a shopper. I toyed yesterday with the options I had with meat and decided today that being able to recycle at least some of the plastic had to be better than throwing it all, i.e. the butcher's plastic bags.

I also bought bread, but again, I have always recycled bread bags, so this was a good option. This week I did pick up on my bread-making again though, which is always better and you can use a bag over and over... I also store stale end pieces FOREVER in a cotton bag (you know the type you get given for promotions - washed of course!). they hang on the back of a door until I need breadcrumbs, then I whizz them up in the food processor and freeze any left overs. They are the BEST breadcrumbs ever!

Ok, so second shop was unexpected, but I had needed to go to M&S, so a quick look at the food is a must...

Here I bought a chicken to roast - again, film non-recyclable but tray is. They do offer some chicken in a roasting bag and foil tray. Now, tray is great to recycle, but a roasting bag just means twice the plastic to throw away! It's a shame because I love the rotisserie chicken they do like this...

I bought tins of soup, a bottle of beer (both ok) and a box of liquorice allsorts for R (bless!). I will probably have to throw the bag they are in, thinking about it too late...

You see, it's hard to keep on your toes when shopping! And thank goodness for recycling plants! If we didn't have them, plastic would be an even worse scurge than it is now!

It's going to be an interesting month...
