You know those days where the weather just makes you long to shut the doors and hide away, well that's me. Am thankful for being in the east and send my thoughts to all the people who are struggling with the storm that hit the West.
As for me, a wet day project is in order...
Perfect day for making a snuffle mat for Meg! I've been looking at buying one, but they seem to be over £20 online! So, I've investigated different options and decided to go for a rag rug make. The difference is the base, which I'll have to report back on for durability, but I've opted for anti slip rug backing, rather than a rubber holed mat. Purely because in The Range, that was all they had and at £3.50 for a huge amount, I guessed it was worth a try!
So... I cut off a section 30 x 60cm to start. This eventually became 30 x 30cm, but I wasn't sure how it would pan out.
Luckily I had some fleece left over from H making a cushion for her brother...
...but you can buy bags of fleece remnants from Amazon. Or, recycle old clothes!
So armed with the offsets, I set about cutting strips 5cm x 20-23cm.
Using the strips I started thread them through the mat and tying them with a single knot...
I did a row of black, then leaving one row, started a row of grey, then did the same with the white
As you can see, the back looks like this above. Whereas, the top eventually looks like this...
Cut off any excess matting. Obviously make it as big as you want!
And that's it - done! It took me about 45 mins in all, and was quite relaxing 😊
So, time for the test...
Well, that went well! As Meg is just a puppy, she did want to play with the mat after, so I did take it away to keep some novelty appeal each time it comes out. Am sure after time she will know it's a foody game 🐶😊
Now to think about a christmas pressie version... 🤔
Let me know if you have a go and how you and your dog get on, or if you have any other tips - please share!!
Happy snuffling 🐶❤
