Trying to get back on track!
After two very busy weeks at work, and being looked after by R, I have missed my kitchen. The trouble is, when I get back in there, I dip back into my old ways and start repeating recipes, albeit new ones I have tried since starting my blog, but nevertheless, I am doing them over and over. Tiredness has a big effect on creativity!
However, some of the usual suspects have a role to play in my life. Take my Granola. I need a healthy breakfast to start the day and it ticks all the boxes. A tweak here and there means it doesn't stay the same, or have the very same ingredients, and I enjoy it. Last week, very kindly, R bought me a packet from the supermarket to save me having the make my own in the middle of the week. It was nice, and I was very grateful, but it was nothing like mine - I hadn't realised! So, this weekend it's time I made some more...
R is a huge quiche fan and has tried to make do with shop-bought last week. However, the last pack-up he took to work, came home half-eaten. Time for quiche making to be reinstated! Tonight I made a chicken and mushroom individual one (cold chicken and mushroom that had been cooked in Philidephia cream cheese for H's pasta on Thursday), and a smoked ham, bacon and pickled onion cheese one. I made shortcrust pastry with chopped fresh chives in, and used a chive flower in the quiche. We will see how that goes down tomorrow! The onion strength of the flower will either overwhelm or compliment the other ingredients... I'll let you know.
Onion bahjis featured again tonight, and I used the recipe I had given earlier. I managed to make 7 large bahjis. We ate 3 and I froze the rest for another day.
I also managed to mix up a packet of seedy bread mix I picked up from M&S for 49p!! It looks ok, but I guess the eating will be the test. It will be good for helping to eat up the Boursin cheese I bought on Wednesday...
Well, actually a busy day in the kitchen today. Nothing new though, but I think I will search out some recipes and see if I can find inspiration. I do have an idea to make fishcakes with some cod I have in the freezer, and I would also like to try Sophie Dahl's Baked Onions. Perhaps this week would be a good one to try them out and get me back on track again.
